A pleaser is the opposite of a teaser—you give points to the house instead of receiving them, in exchange for higher payouts. If a teaser moves lines in your favor, a pleaser moves them against you. Pleasers offer big payouts (6-to-1 or higher) but are extremely difficult to win and generally considered -EV.
Example
Instead of teasing Chiefs -7 to Chiefs -1, a pleaser moves them to Chiefs -13. You need them to win by 14+ instead of 8+. A 2-team 6-point pleaser might pay 6-to-1, but you're taking terrible lines on both legs.
Common Questions
Are pleasers ever a good bet?
Are pleasers ever a good bet?
Almost never. The payouts look attractive, but the math heavily favors the house. You're essentially taking the worst possible lines. Stick to teasers through key numbers if you want adjusted spreads.
What's the difference between a pleaser and a teaser?
What's the difference between a pleaser and a teaser?
Teasers move lines IN your favor (you get extra points) for reduced payouts. Pleasers move lines AGAINST you for increased payouts. Teasers can be +EV in specific NFL situations; pleasers rarely are.
